LP Board Update -- April 20, 2022
During its Regular Board Meeting held on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 the Board of Education accomplished the following items.
- Appointed Mrs. Lori Whalen as Board Secretary Pro Tem for the meeting.
- Approved the minutes of the March 16, 2022 Regular Meeting and the April 4, 2022 Special Meeting.
- Jordyn McCoy and Allie Legrenzi presented the Student Ambassadors Report.
- Recognized Mrs. Jackie Actis for her exemplary efforts in the business office in recent years, particularly for her role with the business software migration process.
- Received comments from the public, regarding issues such as critical race theory, social-emotional learning, library books, inclusivity, and the Illinois Youth Survey.
- Approved monthly LP and ACC bills and financial statements.
- Alcorn presented the Policy Committee Report.
- Received correspondence from the families of Mrs. Frances Newell, Mr. Walter Halm, and Mr. Mike Pikula, and from Mrs. Cheryl DePaepe on behalf of the L-P Foundation.
- Wrobleski presented the Superintendent’s Report, sharing information on the quickly approaching end of the school year and related activities, the upcoming Excellence in Education celebration, the dedication of the Sixth Street Entrance on May 11, and preparing the FY ’23 District Budget.
- Cushing presented the Principal’s Report, sharing information on completing state-required testing, finalizing the ’23 Student Handbook, finishing the Master Schedule, preparing for graduation, and planning Summer School.
- Le presented the Athletics & Activities Report, sharing information on the impact of weather on the spring athletic season and recent and upcoming student activities.
- Baker presented the Director of Communication Report, sharing information on recent Communication Office activities and the upcoming L-P Foundation Trivia Night on April 23.
- Approved a proclamation recognizing Teacher Appreciation Week – May 2-6, 2022.
- Approved the following PRESS Board Policies Issue #108 recommendations regarding the National Sex Education Standards:
- Board Policy 6:60 – replace the last sentence of #10 with “The Superintendent shall implement a comprehensive health education program in accordance with State law, including a developmentally appropriate consent education curriculum pursuant to 105 ILCS 5/27-9.1b.
- Board Policy 6:60 AP1 – drop #12 and renumber #13-32 as #12-31.
- Reject adoption of Board Policy 6:60 AP2 – Comprehensive Personal Health and Sexual Health Education Program (National Sex Education Standards (NSES)
- Approved the IHSA Renewal for the 2022-2023 school year.
- Approved awarding Chapman’s Mechanical Systems, Peru, IL the contract for the Tunnel Drain Replacement – Main Academic Building Project for Base Bid - $61,289.00 and Alternate Bid #1 - $44,846.00 for a total $106,135.00.
- Approved to let bids for the following 2022-2023 contracts:
- Pizza
- Milk/Dairy
- Bread
- Approved the following treasurer’s surety bonds:
- General Obligation Series 2019
- Treasurer Bond
- Approved the Get On Track, Inc. contract for Speech-Language Pathology Services effective July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023.
- Approved the following resignation with regret:
- Mr. Dan Noramczyk, Assistant Boys’ Basketball Coach, effective March 30, 2022
- Approved the following appointments:
- Mrs. Claudia Alonzo, Para-Professional, effective April 25, 2022 (replaces Mrs. Kristen Koukol)
- Mr. Adam Spencer, Head Girls’ Basketball Coach, effective the 2022-2023 school year (replaces Mr. Hollis Vickery)
- Mr. Matt Powers, Volunteer Bass Fishing Captain, effective the 2021-2022 school year
- Mr. Mike Legrenzi, Volunteer Bass Fishing Captain, effective the 2021-2022 school year
- Approved reviewing and retaining executive/closed
- session minutes of the March 16, 2022 Regular meeting.
- Approved the destruction of verbatim audio records from executive sessions held prior to November 1, 2020 per the Illinois Open Meetings Act, 5 ILCS 120.
- Approved the recommended discipline plan for Student #5, transfer to Safe Schools from May 2, 2022 to no less than a period ending on December 31, 2022. Student #5 physically endangered self, other students, and staff. Student #5 has been involved in multiple physical altercations. It has been determined that there are no other appropriate interventions for this behavior.
