LP Board Update -- May 2019

During its Regular Board Meeting held on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 the Board of Education accomplished the following items.

  1. Approved the minutes of the April 24, 2019 Regular Meeting and the April 29, 2019 Special Meeting.
  2. Jaidynne Lash, Ivy Soens, and Marley Crabbe presented the Student Ambassadors report.
  3. Recognized the state-qualifying members of the WYSE team Keeton Kowalski, Joey Barroso and coach Eric Bjerkaas, journalism competitor Hope Beelman and coach Alexandra West. The Board also recognized Unified Champion School Activation Committee student presenters Emily Anderson and Alex Angelini and sponsor Kristie Witte.
  4. Spotlighted the Social Science and English Divisions, featuring Mrs. Phillips and Mr. Woods discussing the sophomore honors immigration project.
  5. Sparks presented the President’s Report, welcoming Mr. Sarver and Mrs. Taliani and commenting on plans to restructure the board committees.
  6. Wrobleski presented the Superintendent’s Report, sharing information on plans for graduation, vendor bids, and budget planning. Dr. Wrobleski also presented the FY2019 amended budget to the Board.
  7. Mentgen presented the ACC/SRAVTE Director’s report, sharing information on special community projects being conducted by students in the ACC courses.
  8. Baker presented the Director of Communication & Fundraising report, sharing information on the upcoming band/choir concerts, a recent legislative seminar attended along with Mrs. Whalen and Mrs. Adams and the upcoming LP Foundation alumni mailing.
  9. Approved authorizing public display of the FY 2019 Amended Budget
  10. Approved the permanent interfund transfer of $700,000 from the Working Cash Fund to the Education Fund
  11. Approved the permanent interfund transfer of $750,000 from the Working Cash Fund to the Operations and Maintenance Fund
  12. Approved the permanent interfund transfer of $1,000,000 from the Transportation Fund to the Operations and Maintenance Fund
  13. Approved transferring the capital lease payment of $167,705 from the Education Fund to the Debt Service Fund
  14. Approved the Memorandum of Understanding with the LP Federation of teachers regarding the Assistant Athletic Director position
  15. Approved the final calendar for 2018-2019
  16. Approved the amended 2019-2020 District calendar
  17. Approved the I-8 Conference Constitution and By-Laws- 2nd Reading
  18. Approved the 2019-2020 Event Admission Fees
  19. Approved awarding the bid for the Pizza Contract for the 2019-2020 school year to Pizza Hut
  20. Approved awarding the bid for the Milk/Dairy Contact for the 2019-2020 school year to Prairie Farms
  21. Approved awarding the bid for Bakery Products Contract for the 2019-2020 school year to Alpha Bakery
  22. Approved the Get On Track, Inc. contract for Speech-Language Pathology Services effective July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020
  23. Approved the following reassignments:
    1. Mr. Matt McLaughlin, part-time job share ACC Fire Science/EMS program Teacher to part-time classroom teacher assistant
  24. Approved the following appointment:
    1. Mr. Adam Spencer, Head Boys Track Coach, for the 2019-2020 school year (replaces Mr. Nick McLaughlin)
  25. Approved the following resignations:
    1. Ms. Taylor Alba, Head Cheerleading Coach, effective the conclusion of the 2018-2019 school year
    2. Ms. Monica Davidson, Head Special Olympics Advisor, effective the conclusion of the 2018-2019 school year
    3. Mrs. Michelle Sittler, Science Division Chair, effective the conclusion of the 2018-2019 school year

  3. Approved the Renaissance Committee to attend the annual Jostens’ Renaissance National Conference in Orlando, Florida from July 20 to July 24, 2019
  4. Reviewed and retained the Executive/Closed Session minutes of the April 24, 2019 Regular Meeting
  5. Approved recommended destruction of verbatim audio records from Executive Sessions held prior to November 1, 2017
  6. Approved the appointment of the following individuals:
    1. Ms. Addie Kostellic (English teacher) for the 2019-2020 school year (replaces Mr. Nick McLaughlin)
    2. Ms. Madeline Kennedy (temporary English teacher) for the 2019-2020 school year (maternity leave for Mrs. Monica Leskanich)
    3. Mr. Andrew Nelson (Social Science teacher) for the 2019-2020 school year (replaces Mr. Tyler VanLandeghem)
    4. Mrs. Diane Bergagna (accounts payable/receivable specialist) for the 2019-2020 school year (replaces Mrs. Margery Schmitt)
    5. Ms. Amery Ziel-Cole (Special Olympics head coach) for the 2019-2020 school year (replaces Ms. Monica Davidson)
