LP Board Update -- April 2019

 

During its Regular Board Meeting held on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 the Board of Education accomplished the following items.

  1. Approved the minutes of the March 20, 2019 Regular Meeting and the April 12, 2019 Special Meeting.
  2. Grace McCormick and Marley Crabbe presented the Student Ambassadors report.
  3. Recognized the state-qualifying Unified Basketball team Storm Hannen, Luis Arevalo, Elijah Arthurs, Kaitlyn Gibson, Cassidy Anderson, Emily Anderson, Alexander Angelini, Emily Arthurs, Annika Draper, Michael McGuire, Shyanna Abriam, Bishop Stiles, and coaches Amery Ziel-Cole and Monica Davidson.
  4. Spotlighted the Business/CTE Division, featuring Mrs. Bedenko-Hill and Mr. Spencer discussing Knowledge Matters, a personal finance simulation software, being used in classes now.
  5. Sparks presented the President’s Report, commenting on the final board meeting for Dr. Meier and Mrs. Renk, and thanking them for their service.
  6. Wrobleski presented the Superintendent’s Report, sharing information on successfully defending his doctoral dissertation, departmental budget planning, updates on recent FOIA requests, and hazard/safety training for custodial and maintenance staff.
  7. Parker presented the Athletic & Activities Director’s report, sharing information on recent athletic successes, Journalism and WYSE competition successes, and updates on recent college student-athlete signings, and plans for upcoming spring athletic events.
  8. Mentgen presented the ACC/SRAVTE Director’s report, sharing information on Mrs. Stiker receiving attention for her use of a Dairy Council grant and the upcoming ACC awards.
  9. Baker presented the Director of Communication & Fundraising report, sharing information on recent communication office activities, success of the LP Foundation Trivia Night, and accepting nominations for the next class of the LP Hall of Honor.
  10. Approved a proclamation honoring Board members Dr. Peter Meier and Mrs. Cathy Renk
  11. Approved a proclamation recognizing Teacher Appreciation Week: May 6-10, 2019
  12. Approved treasurer’s surety bonds for general obligation Series 2019 ($1,091.00)
  13. Approved Hillmann Pediatric Therapy, P.C. Contract for the 2019-2020 school year
  14. Approved letting bids for pizza contract for 2019-2020 school year
  15. Approved letting bids for milk/dairy contract for 2019-2020 school year
  16. Approved letting bids for bread contract for 2019-2020 school year
  17. Approved letting bids for beverage vendor and advertising services
  18. Approved creating a part-time Assistant Athletic Director position
  19. Reviewed I-8 Conference Constitution and By-laws – 1st Reading
  20. Approved the following appointments:
    1. Ms. Katie Meyer, Volunteer Book Club Sponsor, effective the 2019-2020 school year (replaces Mrs. Nancy Szuda)
  21. Approved the following reassignments:
    1. Mrs. Robbyn Partain, part-time job shared ACC Fire Science/EMS Program Teacher to part-time ACC Fire and Science/EMS Program Teacher for the 2019-2020 school year
  22. Approved the following resignations:
    1. Ms. Kourtney Ewald, Assistant Girls Basketball Coach and the Assistant Girls Track Coach, effective the conclusion of the 2018-2019 school year
    2. Mrs. Nancy Szuda, Volunteer Book Club Sponsor, effective the conclusion of the 2019-2020 school year
    3. Mrs. Megan Kowalczyk, LP Honor Society Sponsor, effective the conclusion of the 2018-2019 school year
  1. Approved accepting with regret the following retirement:
    1. Mrs. Larisa Sarver, Art Teacher, conclusion of the 2019-2020 school year
  2. Approved maternity leave for Ms. Kourtney Ewald (English Teacher) on or about September 3, 2019 and planning to return after 8 weeks of leave, and will use her accumulated sick days to cover the leave
  3. Approved paternity leave for Mr. Jason Miller (Special Education Teacher) on or about August 12, 2019 and returning on or about August 20, 2019, He will be taking an additional 10 days of leave on or about October 3, 2019 and returning on or about October 17, 2019. Mr. Miller will be using his accumulated sick days
  4. Approved the Girls Track and Field Team to attend the team building campout at the LaSalle-Peru Sports Complex on Friday, May 24, 2019. Food and snacks will be provided by the students/parents
  5. Reviewed and retained the Executive/Closed Session minutes of the March 20, 2019 Regular Meeting
  6. Approved recommended destruction of verbatim audio records from Executive Sessions held prior to October 1, 2017
  7. Approved the appointment of Mr. Chris Jackson, principal, for 2019-2020 (replaces Ms. Stephanie Jeanblanc)
