LP Board Update -- February 2019

During its Regular Board Meeting held on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 the Board of Education accomplished the following items.

  1. Approved the minutes of the January 23, 2019 Regular Meeting.
  2. Recognized music students Aubrey Garretson (flute), Jessica Znaniecki (flute), and Reid Rynke (tenor I) and teachers Grace Currie and Paula Tuttle for their participation Illinois Music Educators Association state conference.
  3. Grace McCormick, Marley Crabbe, Ivy Soens, and Jaidynne Lash presented the Student Ambassadors report.
  4. Renaissance leaders presented gifts to the Board, recognizing them for their role in the educational climate of the school.
  5. Spotlighted the Mathematics program, featuring Mr. Bjerkaas discussing the AP Computer Science A program.
  6. Sparks presenting the President’s Report, commenting on the positive evaluation of Mr. Wrobleski as superintendent, particularly his leadership during the LP Renovation process, financial planning, and community relations.
  7. Cherpeske presented the Buildings & Grounds Committee Report.
  8. Meier presented the Finance Committee Report.
  9. Wrobleski presented the Superintendent’s Report, sharing information on upcoming financial planning meetings, a revised division budgeting process, and rescheduling the Field of Dreams Turf community presentation; Mr. Sash and Mr. Parker presented portions of the State of the District report, focusing on behavior and athletics and activities participation; Mrs. Cushing presented an overview of ESSA.
  10. Parker presented the Athletic & Activities Director’s report, sharing information on the conclusion of the winter season, including recent successes in bowling, wrestling, winter guard, and swimming, and the upcoming spring season.
  11. Mentgen presented the ACC/SRAVTE Director’s report, sharing information on current activities in the ACC.
  12. Baker presented the Director of Communication & Fundraising report, sharing information on the upcoming process to update the LPHS website, as well as development of a new mass notification system and app, and the recent LP Foundation chicken dinner.­
  13. Approved the resolution providing for the issue, in one or more series, of not to exceed, in the aggregate, $3,700,000 Taxable General Obligation School Bonds, of LaSalle-Peru Township High School District Number 120, in LaSalle and Bureau Counties, Illinois, and for the levy of a direct annual taxes sufficient to pay the principal and interest on such bonds
  14. Approved to renew treasurer’s surety bonds for general obligation series 2017 ($5,175.00)
  15. Approved of intergovernmental agreement with the City of Oglesby
  16. Approved of the following LPHS Renovation Project change orders:
    1. CO 247 PCI-436 - Furnish & Install Sheet Metal Cover at Boiler House Chimney: $1,210.00
  17. Approved the Superintendent’s Employment Contract
  18. Approved the following resignations:
    1. Mr. Leo Trujillo, Head Boys Soccer Coach, effective February 4, 2019
  19. Approved the following appointments:
    1. Mr. Robert Reese, Assistant Baseball Coach, effective for the second semester of the 2018-2019 school year (replaces Mr. Levi Ericson)
    2. Mr. Andrew Nelson, Volunteer Assistant Baseball Coach, effective for the second semester of the 2018-2019 school year
    3. Mr. Kyle Jenkins, Volunteer Assistant Baseball Coach, effective for the second semester of the 2018-2019 school year
  1. Approved request for the Varsity Softball team’s overnight trip to Woodstock Illinois on Friday, April 19 to participate in the Woodstock Invitational. The trip costs will be paid through the softball program fundraising to cover all expenses for the players and coaches.
  2. Approved request for the Key Club’s overnight trip to Springfield on Friday, March 8 through Sunday, March 10th to attend the annual Illinois-Eastern Iowa District Convention Leadership Conference (DCLC). The convention costs will be paid by club fundraising and student’s contributions.
  3. Approved and retained the executive closed session minutes for the January 23, 2019 regular meeting.
  4. Approved the destruction of verbatim audio records from executive sessions held prior to August 1, 2017, per the Illinois Open Meetings Act, 5 ILCS 120.
  5. Approved opening previously closed session minutes as recommended.
  6. Approved the resignation agreement and accepting the resignation of Mrs. Stephanie Jeanblanc, Principal, effective June 30, 2019.
  7. Approved appointing Mr. Randy Gunia as assistant softball coach, effect second semester of 2018-2019 school year (replaces Ms. Jessica Strauch).

The Board recognizes ILMEA participants and music directors. Renaissance leaders meet with Board President Tony Sparks. Mr. Bjerkaas presents on the AP Computer Science program to the board.
