LP Board Update -- November 16, 2022

During its Regular Board Meeting held on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 the Board of Education accomplished the following items.

  1. Approved the minutes of the October 19, 2022 Regular Meeting.
  2. Recognized state-qualifying members of the girls tennis team, Carlie Miller, Ava Lannen, Emelia Hachenberger, Isabella Pohar, and Kaylie Reese, girls tennis head coach Aaron Guenther and assistant coach Scott Blessman, and volleyball head coach Mark Haberkorn on reaching 1,000 career victories.
  3. School Board Recognition Month was celebrated with Dr. Wrobleski thanking the Board Members on behalf of the school district. The Illinois Association of School Board also provided special recognition to Board President Tony Sparks and Board Member Carol Alcorn as Established Board Members.
  4. The Student Support Services Division was spotlighted, featuring Mrs. Carney discussing the numerous services being offered to students through the division.
  5. Provided opportunity for public comment.
  6. Approved monthly L-P and ACC bills and financial statements.
  7. Received the FY ‘22 Auditor’s Report from Bill Newkirk, CPA, of Newkirk & Associates.
  8. Received correspondence from the family of “Jodi” Loretta Newell, Mrs. Cheryl DePaepe on behalf of the LPHS Foundation, and Mrs. Bobbi Newell.
  9. Received TIF Reimbursements from Village of North Utica (TIF I - $15,206.08 and TIF II - $6,974.59 for a total of $22,180.67), City of LaSalle ($85,077.74), and City of Oglesby (TIF I - $59,795.53 and TIF VI - $3,233.07 for a total of $63,028.60) for a grand total of $170,287.07.
  10. Mr. Sarver presented the Building and Grounds Committee Report.
  11. Mr. Merboth presented the Finance Committee Report.
  12. Dr. Wrobleski presented the Superintendent’s Report, sharing information on the current status of the district’s fund accounts compared to the start of the year, discussed the tentative 2022 tax levy, the recent Active Shooter Drill held on campus, and the Veterans Day Assembly.
  13. Mrs. Cushing presented the Principal’s Report, sharing information on Parent-Teacher Conferences, the Veterans Day Assembly, the upcoming girls basketball donation night at the LaSalle Celebration of Lights on November 22, and recent Star 360 data.
  14. Mr. Kuziel presented the Athletics & Activities Report, sharing information on the completion of fall season sports, the start of the winter season, and activities updates.
  15. Mr. Mentgen presented the ACC Director’s Report, sharing information on the ACC Student of the Month, the 8th Grade tour for Dimmick and LaSalle grade school students, completing the Dolan Building window projects, changing the name of the early childhood education program, and upcoming real world career opportunities/experiences for students, as well as recent donations from local businesses.
  16. Mr. Baker presented the Director of Communication Report, sharing information on recent Communication Office activities.
  17. Approved adopting the tentative 2022 tax levy for school year 2023-2024
  18. Approved the resolution authorizing preliminary proceedings in connection with the issuance of General Obligation School Bonds, Series 2023 of LaSalle Peru Township High School District No. 120, LaSalle and Bureau Counties, Illinois, of up to $11,000,000 of working cash fund bonds and paying for costs related thereto, as amended.
  19. Approved the resolution authorizing the issuance of General Obligation School Bonds (Alternate Revenue Source), Series 2023 of LaSalle Peru Township High School District No. 120, LaSalle and Bureau Counties, Illinois for the purpose of financing the costs of certain capital projects within the District and paying for costs related thereto, as amended.
  20. Approved the Intergovernmental Agreement on Deactivation with Lostant Community Unit School District No. 425 and LaSalle-Peru Township High School for the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 school years
  21. Approved Change order #1 – Herbolsheimer Alumni Room Renovation Project, credit for $1,144.96
  22. Approved letting bids for the following projects:
      1. Dolan Building/Auto Shop Renovation Phase III
      2. Nurse’s Office Renovation
      3. L-P Sports Complex Tennis Courts Renovation
  23. Approved adopting the following new L-P course for the 2023-2024 school year:

  24. Approved the following appointments:
      1. Mr. Randy Koehler, Assistant Boys’ Basketball Coach, effective for the 2022-2023 school year (replaces Mr. Andy Kellett)
      2. Ms. Nicci Gibson, Winter Cardio Room Supervisor, effective from November 14, 2022, through February 17, 2023 (new position)
      3. Mr. Troy Woods, Spring Cardio Room Supervisor, effective from February 27, 2023 to the end of the 2022-2023 school year (new position)
      4. Ms. Zoe Piano, Volunteer Musical Assistant Director, effective for the 2022-2023 school year
      5. Mrs. Deana Brown Simmer, Volunteer Musical Choreographer, effective for the 2022-2023 school year
      6. Mr. Christian Soderholm, Volunteer Assistant Boys’ Basketball Coach, effective for the 2022-2023 school year
  25. Approved the FMLA maternity leave request from Mrs. Kristen Derix, beginning on or around March 31, 2023 and continuing through the end of the 2022-2023 school year. Mrs. Derix will use her accumulated sick leave in conjunction with the FMLA request
  26. Approved the LP Crunching Cavs Youth Wrestling Program request to host the annual Crunching Cavs Classic Tournament at L-P High School on Sunday, January 29, 2023
  27. Approved reviewing and retaining the executive/closed session minutes of October 19, 2022, Regular meeting
  28. Authorized destruction of verbatim audio records from executive sessions held prior to June 1, 2021, per the Illinois Open Meetings Act, 5 ILCS 120
  29. Approved ratifying the 2022-2024 Collective Bargaining Agreement with the LaSalle-Peru Support Staff Union, AFT Local 604
  30. Approved a memorandum of understanding with the LaSalle-Peru Support Staff Union, AFT Local 604
