Dear LP Families –
I hope everyone’s summer is going well. It is hard to believe that July is just around the corner.
The purpose of my message is to update our families on the reopening of school this fall. Last week the Illinois State Board of Education released a guiding document to assist schools in their planning. A copy of this report can be accessed at this link along with an accompanying FAQ that was updated today by clicking here.
On July 1, a team of LP staff members representing our employee groups are meeting to draft recommendations for reopening this fall. We intend to survey staff and parents for additional feedback addressing several areas related to reopening school. We intend to provide opportunities for staff and community to weigh-in on the ideas the reopening team is crafting. The goal is to have recommendations ready to present to the Board of Education on or before the end of July.
Additionally, LP and our Elementary Sender Schools are planning a joint meeting to share and discuss our approaches for reopening. We recognize that we share many of the same families. We are going to do everything we can to align our plans to minimize impacts on families.
There is no doubt this next phase will generate questions and concerns. To that end, we are going to adhere to the following guiding principles that will serve as our guideposts in crafting the recommendations:
A. Maintain the health and safety of all students and staff;
B. Provide meaningful and engaging learning experiences for all students;
C. Address the social-emotional needs of all students;
D. Provide clarity, consistency, and stability for all students and staff; and
E. Provide ongoing professional development for staff that address the learning needs unique to this time.
We appreciate everyone's patience as we navigate these uncharted waters. You have our commitment that we will keep you engaged and informed in our planning efforts.
