SAT Advice for Juniors

March 1, 2019

Dear Parent/Guardian of 11th grade students:

Since your child is currently enrolled as an 11th grade student at LaSalle-Peru Township High School, he/she will be taking the SAT Exam on Tuesday, April 9, 2019.  The State of Illinois requires all 11th grade students to take this exam as the State’s accountability exam.  Since the SAT is a globally recognized college entrance exam, the district will no longer off the ACT Exam.  The SAT Exam are offered for free to your child.

The SAT Exam is a rigorous assessment that measures the skills and knowledge learned throughout the duration of your child’s educational career.  The Exam measures what your child has been learning in high school and what he/she will need to succeed in college.  The exam will consist of four sections: Reading, Writing & Language, Math, and an Essay.

To ensure that your child is successful on SAT Exam day, please ensure that they arrive at school so that they can begin testing promptly at 7:45 A.M.  They will need to bring their school ID, a couple of #2 pencils, and an approved calculator.  Please visit the following link to verify that your child’s calculator is approved: . Cell phones are not allowed to be used as calculators.  Electronics are not allowed and may not be used during the breaks either.  Choosing to use an electronic will result in an invalid test score.  Testing will conclude at approximately 1:00 P.M.  Breakfast will be available to purchase in the new cafeteria, but lunch will not be served.

Transportation to school will follow the regular schedule for all students in the district.  The transportation schedule to return home will vary.  Each 11th grade student that would like to have bus transportation home from school on Tuesday, April 9 will need to sign up for the ride home in the LPHS Bookstore.  In order to be financially responsible, we will need to have an accurate count of students who need transportation home.  If your child needs transportation home from school, he/she must sign up for the bus ride home in the LPHS Bookstore by Wednesday, March 27, 2019.  Students who do not sign up will be responsible for their own transportation home.

Despite the rigor of the SAT Exam, we at LPHS pride ourselves on the success of our students.  We are confident that your child will carry on this tradition of success.  For further details on the SAT Exam, please direct any questions or concerns to me at or by phone at 815-223-1721.
