PSAT Advice for Freshmen & Sophomores
March 1, 2019
Dear Parent/Guardian of 9th and 10th grade students:
Since your child is currently enrolled as a 9th or 10th grade student at LaSalle-Peru Township High School, he/she will be taking the PSAT 8/9 Exam or the PSAT 10, respectively, on Tuesday, April 9, 2019. New this year, the State of Illinois requires all 9th and 10th grade students to take the exam as the State’s accountability exam. Both of these exams are a part of the SAT Suite of Assessments. The exams are offered for free to your child.
The SAT Suite of Assessments is comprised of various assessments that measures the skills and knowledge learned throughout the duration of your child’s educational career. The Exam measures what your child has been learning in high school and what he/she will need to succeed in college. The exam will consist of three sections: Reading, Writing & Language, and Math.
To ensure that your child is successful on the exam day, please ensure that they arrive at school so that they can begin testing promptly at 7:45 A.M. They will need to bring their school ID, a couple of #2 pencils, and an approved calculator. Please visit the following link to verify that your child’s calculator is approved: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-8-9/taking-the-test/test-day-checklist/approved-calculators. Cell phones are not allowed to be used as calculators. Electronics are not allowed and may not be used during the breaks either. Choosing to use an electronic will result in an invalid test score. Testing will conclude at approximately 11:00 A.M. Breakfast will be available to purchase in the new cafeteria, but lunch will not be served.
Transportation to school will follow the regular schedule for all students in the district. With regards to timing, the transportation to return home may vary slightly since only 9th and 10th grade students will be riding the buses. Your child can begin boarding the bus at approximately 11:00A.M., and buses will depart no later than 11:20 A.M.
LPHS faculty has worked diligently to best prepare your child for these exams. And, historically, our students work diligently, too, and excel academically. We are looking forward to their successes!
