Important Health Update

Dear Parents,

The health and safety of our students and staff has always been a top priority at La Salle-Peru Township High School. Media reports surrounding the Coronavirus and its potential impact on the United States and its schools have been circulating widely recently. In light of these reports, we wanted to share information with you about communicable disease prevention, planning and reporting in our schools.

It is important to note that there is currently not an outbreak of the Coronavirus in our area.

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) recently issued a statement on the virus that you may read online. At this time, IDPH is not recommending cancelling school or for schools to take other measures. However, LPHS is in close communication with the LaSalle County Health Department and LaSalle County Regional Office of Education. We are also monitoring health and safety updates from the IDPH, the CDC, and the Illinois State Board of Education. We would take full direction and guidance from these trusted agencies in the event of a viral outbreak in our school or community. While Coronavirus is receiving the most attention lately, influenza is the more common health risk in our community currently.

As with most communicable illnesses, common prevention measures are recommended:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol (Hand sanitizer dispensers are available in the Student Commons and the East Gym.).
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

We will continue to work closely with our area health and education departments and will share important information with you as it becomes available.
