L-P Graduation 2023

One of LaSalle-Peru Township High School’s finest traditions is our formal commencement exercise. We know that you are especially interested in making the commencement exercise a memorable occasion. Your interest and concern are shared by the Board of Education who has adopted a commencement policy that will help us to continue this fine tradition.

This year's ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 18, at 7:00 p.m. Seniors need to arrive by 6:15 with doors opening at 6:00. Seniors will line up with their homeroom teachers on the first floor. All graduates are to report to the Sellett Gym for graduation rehearsal on Wednesday, May 17 at 1:30 p.m. If weather permits, commencement exercises will be held in the stadium. If the weather looks doubtful, an announcement will be made on radio station WLPO\WAJK, on all of our social media accounts, and through our messaging system regarding the location (stadium or Sellett Gym) of the commencement. Tickets will be distributed to students at graduation practice. Tickets are only needed for the indoor ceremony. Typically, students will receive six to seven tickets each for the indoor ceremony. Seating is unlimited outdoors.

Caps, gowns and tassels were ordered for all graduating seniors and were distributed last week. Please have your child try on the gown right away and make sure it is the correct size. If you need a different size, please contact Mrs. Franklin, Principal’s Administrative Assistant, at 815-220-2720 or bfranklin@lphs.net. It takes a couple of weeks to reorder these items, so it’s imperative that you check everything right away.

Policy requires the graduate to follow the dress code contained in the Parent-Student Handbook. Additionally, we are asking you to urge your graduate to dress in a manner that is suitable for this formal occasion: shirts and trousers for boys; dresses, dress pants, or skirts for girls. Tennis shoes, T-shirts, shorts, and jeans are considered inappropriate dress. If the ceremony is held in the stadium, only shoes with flat bottoms can be worn on the turf. No high heels can be worn. Students are not allowed to decorate their graduation caps.

We feel it is extremely important that each student and his/her family and friends be able to hear the graduate’s name when read. In the past an otherwise beautiful ceremony has been marred by yelling, name-calling, whistling, and other disturbing noises made by a few people seated in the stands. This usually occurs as the graduates' names are being read. Please assist us by refraining from making disturbing noises and encouraging others to do so.

We suggest it would be best if pictures of the graduates were taken before or after the ceremony. GradTrak will take photos of each graduate as the diploma is received. These photographs will be mailed or e-mailed as a passport-sized photo proof, and you will be provided with the opportunity to select from a variety of photo packages, with no obligation to purchase.

As you study the commencement policies and procedures outlined on this page, you will notice they have one common purpose: to provide the parents/guardians and the graduates with a commencement that is not only beautiful but fitting--one in which respect and courtesy are shown to all--one that can always be remembered with pride.

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your child’s impending graduation from LaSalle-Peru Township High School.  This is a very special time in the lives of our graduates, and we want to keep it special and meaningful.
