Holiday Safety From the NFPA and the ACC Fire Science Class

As you deck the halls this holiday season, be fire smart. A small fire that spreads to a Christmas tree can grow large very quickly.

    Picking the tree

    • Choose a tree with fresh, green needles that do not fall off when touched.

    Placing the tree

    • Before placing the tree in the stand, cut 2” from the base of the trunk.
    • Make sure the tree is at least three feet away from any heat source, like fireplaces, radiators, candles, heat vents or lights.
    • Make sure the tree is not blocking an exit.
    • Add water to the tree stand. Be sure to add water daily.

    L ighting the tree

    • Use lights that have the label of a recognized testing laboratory. Some lights are only for indoor or outdoor use.
    • Replace any string of lights with worn or broken cords or loose bulb connections. Read

manufacturer’s instructions for number of light strands to connect.

    • Never use lit candles to decorate the tree.
    • Always turn off Christmas tree lights before leaving home or going to bed.

This week is National School Psychology Week, and this week is all about getting in GEAR.  It’s about how we can

    • GROW: Think of a goal that you would like to achieve.  The goal can be academic or personal.  It can be very small.
    • ENGAGE: Show interest in one of your activities and then engage a friend or family member.
    • ADVOCATE: Ask a question or share one thing that you may need help to make it a great day!
    • AND RISE: Take a moment to reflect on something that you have overcome. Rise relates to resilience!

And remember, if we all get into GEAR we can come together to make a POSITIVE impact on our school community!

Let’s also thank our School Psychologist:  Dr. Jones!

Welcome back seniors! If you did not receive your Senior Portraits information at registration, please pick it up in room 156 or at the Greeter's Desk ASAP. Portraits and photographer release forms are due Friday, October 15th.

If you did not pick up your 2020-2021 yearbook and you paid for one, please stop by the Greeter's Desk or room 156 to pick it up.

Yearbook is recruiting photographers, writers, designers, project managers, and business managers. If you are interested in being a part of the fun this year, join our first meeting after school on Tuesday, August 17th in room 156!

The Cross Country team is looking for athletes to join the team for the 2021 season.  If you are interested, contact Coach Beatty by email or come to room 304.  Two sport athletes are welcome and bring a friend.
