In our response to the COVID-19 pandemic and to maintain student learning during this crisis, LP's administration and faculty have developed an e-Learning Plan for our students. Please refer to the document below to review our e-Learning Plan.
As of April 17, the Governor's order for school closures has been extended through the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. LP will be conducting Remote e-Learning through that time.
End of 2019-2020 School Year Announcement from Dr. Steven Wrobleski, LPHS Superintendent, from April 28, 2020:
Dear LP Families:
I am pleased to share the Administration's plans for bringing academic closure to 2nd semester, and specifically the process for determining semester grades, handling the return of textbooks and Chromebooks, and locker clean-out. The plans listed below were developed in careful consideration to current safety guidelines in conjunction with students' academic and social-emotional needs as well as maximizing our teachers' abilities to assist students in greatest need to either pass a course or one motivated to attain a higher grade.
Grading and Curriculum:
We recognize the vast number of challenges in both teaching and learning from a remote location. In order to best serve staff and students, we are making the following changes that go into effect on May 1.
1. No new curriculum will be introduced after April 30, unless the student is in an AP or Dual Credit class that has different guidelines.
2. The focus of instruction will be on re-teaching or reviewing in order to: a) help those failing students pass, and b) help those students who want to improve their grade.
If a student indicates they are satisfied with the grade they had been earning on March 13 (our last day of in-person instruction) or the grade that they are earning as of April 30, then this student's semester may conclude on May 1 with any additional materials provided by the teacher being optional. The student will earn that grade for the 2nd semester. Teachers will be reaching out to students this week to determine their course of action.
If a student entered the remote learning time period with an F and the student has not demonstrated progress during the remote learning or is not in a position to earn enough points to pass, then the student will earn an F for the semester.
3. No finals will be administered second semester. However, Dual Credit courses will need to follow IVCC guidelines, which may include a final exam.
End of the School Year Dates:
We will utilize these dates to close the 2019-2020 school year:
a. May 15th – Seniors last day of instruction
b. May 20th – Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors last day of instruction
c. May 21st – Remote Planning Day
d. May 22nd – Remote Planning Day
e. May 26th – Remote Planning Day
The Remote Planning Days will be used to ensure that all grade books are updated to reflect the accurate grades. All grades will either maintain from March 13 or be improved.
Chromebook and Textbook Returns:
After much careful consideration, it has been determined that we will only collect materials from the seniors and any students who are transferring out of the district. All other grade levels will return materials in either August at the start of the school year or when it is deemed safe to be back in the building.
Senior Return and Collection Schedule:
To limit trips to the building and interactions with staff, we are implementing a process that will allow seniors to drop off and pick-up all materials in one trip to LPHS. Complete directions will be shared with staff and families in a separate email.
Entrance and exit points, safety guidelines, etc. will be shared. Chromebooks, textbooks, and athletic uniforms will be collected. Locker materials will be returned. Additionally, we will distribute yearbooks if possible.

Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors Locker Material Collection:
Several staff members will be involved in bagging and tagging each academic locker. We will have a staggered locker collection via curbside pick-up, which will be scheduled for days beginning on May 19th. Additional details will be communicated as these dates get closer.
I will be sending another email in a few days with the details on how we are going to handle senior awards and graduation. Mr. Baker is releasing the LP Honor Society induction video this week. Prom has been rescheduled to July 23 at Senica's Oak Ridge pending approved safety guidelines. Please expect to receive my next email on Thursday this week.
We appreciate all the suggestions we are receiving for safe senior celebration ideas. The Administration is considering each one and will be implementing some. We continue to work to support all our students, parents and staff -- and especially to make this as special a time for our seniors.

Dear LPHS Families:
I want to begin by saying how incredibly proud I am of our staff and the hard work they have put in to ensure that our students – your children – get the best possible education during this period of remote learning. While this will never make up for having that caring adult working directly with a classroom of teenagers, we believe we are doing our very best to stay educationally connected with our students.
The purpose of this email is to provide an overview of the LPHS remote learning protocols and expectations. Your child’s teacher will be providing additional information later this week.

- Thursday, April 2, 2020
- Assignments, check-ins, and/or class announcements will be posted no later than 9:30 am each day in Google Classroom.
- Students should log in by 9:30 am each day – or according to the schedule established by their teacher.
- LIVE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES:
- In order to avoid scheduling conflicts for teachers and students, the following schedule will be blocked for teachers to schedule class/small group meeting times, as needed. Please note that this is not intended to be the daily meeting schedule - but a tool to help teachers avoid competing for the same students.
Monday & Wednesday
1st hour: 9:30 – 10:15
2nd hour: 10:30 – 11:15
3rd hour: 12:15 – 1:00
4th hour: 1:15 – 2:00
Tuesday & Thursday
5th hour: 10:30 – 11:15

- Friday’s will be used for teachers to grade, conference with colleagues, lesson plan, provide students with feedback, etc.
- During the period of remote learning, LPHS will be using the following grades: A, B, C, D, or I. The I stands for Incomplete. The focus is for students to either maintain the grade they had prior to the school closure or to improve it. That said, we expect students to complete the work assigned by their teachers. This work will be graded. Students who do not submit required assignments will receive a zero in the gradebook with that assignment marked “missing”. Students will be required to submit the work in order for the grade to be updated. The zero will serve as a reminder to students and parents that there is missing work. Zeroes marked as “missing” at the conclusion of the remote learning period, may result in the overall grade being coded as incomplete. Arrangements will be made to provide a designated window of time for students to complete the work. If the student decides not to complete the work to earn the passing grade, then the missing work will be converted to an F. This would follow the end of the remote learning period.
- TEACHER AVAILABILITY/CONTACT INFORMATION:
- Teachers will be available between 9 am and 2 pm.
- If you need to reach your child’s teacher, either email them or call on their school phone number. All voice messages are forwarded to the teacher’s email.

- Teachers will respond within 24-hours of receiving either an email or voice message.
- STUDENT EXPECTATIONS:
- Most important – we BELIEVE in our students and that each one of them wants to get a good education! Our teachers are doing everything they can to make this tough situation work. We want all our students to provide their best effort as well!
- KEY EXPECTATATIONS………Be respectful of your classmates and teachers – Treat your Chromebook with respect and don’t go places on it that you know you shouldn’t – Do your work – Ask questions – BE THE BEST YOU CAN BE!!
- Our staff will be monitoring students’ use of the Chromebooks. Any violations will be addressed – which could be a phone call home, a two-day suspension from accessing your device or up to a visit from the police and removal of the Chromebook. Use good judgment!
Please be on the lookout for an email from your child’s teachers this week. This is going to be a learning process for all of us – but we will get through it and make the best of it.
